Online vs In-Store Shopping

What’s best; Online Shopping Vs Real Life

Nowadays the use of technology increases every day, and as industries notice this, of course they are taking advantage of the fact most of us sit in front of a screen all day. One of the biggest industries taking a note of this is fashion. Online shopping sites like Asos, Boohoo and Misguided are just some of the many places that have answered lazy shopaholic’s prayers. Online shopping can great especially for those who have busy schedules however is it really better than going to the shops? Being a lover of shopping both online and in real life myself, I thought I would weigh up the pros and cons of both! Let’s see what wins shall we?

  • Positives

The obvious advantage of online shopping is the ability to shop from the comfort of your own bed with a cup of tea. Let’s face it, especially at this time of year it sounds much more appealing on a cold and grim day. Shopping online is also a great time saver. I’ve used online shops many times before especially if I needed a certain item but didn’t have the time to visit the shops (next day delivery for the win!). Another thing that I’ve found about online shops is they always seem to have frequent sales; I personally think they are more student friendly as many usually give an extra percent off for them.

  • Negatives

However, I always find my biggest issue with using online stores is sizing. Brands show a great amount of variation in sizing, and it can be difficult to make a decision. Another issue with online shopping is the clothing quality, deep deep down I think we all know this after that one incident that most of us has made of buying a white piece of clothing and you being able to see your underwear beneath … not a pretty sight. However, the worst thing is a lot of these sites are not sustainable friendly as most of the clothing come from fast fashion warehouses, even if this is not the case their means of delivering the product does not help your carbon footprint.

  • Positives

For me, the biggest advantage of shopping in stores is being able to try the items on immediately. Being honest, if I am confident about what size I am in a shop, or it is a simple item like a t-shirt, I won’t usually try it on. But when it comes to items like dresses and jumpsuits, I always try them on. I always love going shopping with friends or my mum, it’s a really nice day out. There is something about hand picking the items out from the rail that makes it that little bit nicer!

  • Negatives

The one thing I dislike most about it is queueing, as much as I’d hate to admit I am so impatient and at the busy Christmas season I try and avoid the shops as much as possible. Another thing that doesn’t quite float my boat is I feel like when I go shopping its always either a hit or a miss, and I don’t know if it’s just me but the days it’s a ‘miss’ always seem to be the days I feel like treating myself. Either it’s the universes way of telling me to save my money or I just have bad luck.

Overall bringing all factors into play, I personally prefer the real shopping experience. Despite the convenience and variety available, I will always prefer going into a store and picking out an item by hand. There is something so enjoyable about the whole experience.
